Khora Restaurant

Named one of the most-anticipated restaurants [1] prior to its 2020 opening in Cincinnati, Khora [2] features Midwestern cuisine with locally-sourced ingredients. The restaurant is on the first-floor of the Kinley Cincinnati, a new boutique hotel in downtown Cincinnati. Stanton Millworks created a large amount of custom millwork for the modern aesthetic on display in the restaurant.

The curved booth seats quickly catch your eye. These were made out of clear finished light oak. A seat of such a unique shape is created by building a negative of the wall, then creating the seat in sections. The pieces are layered in order, placed into a vacuum. The air is sucked out, the piece sits overnight, and when it is removed from the vacuum the pieces are permanently conformed to the desired shape. A solid cap is then applied to the top.

Here’s another centerpiece featuring curved wood. [5]

The space also features grid-like decorative pieces that the team nicknamed “birdcages.” The frames and a few parts and pieces were fabricated by a local ironworks firm. Stanton Millworks then integrated the metal pieces into their wooden pieces, and painted the full pieces. Some pieces connected to the planters, while others extended floor to ceiling.

Stanton Millworks also completed the light oak paneling  seen along the walls and around the center planters. The team also added onto the front portions of the die bar. The bar was created by a separate firm, but Stanton Millworks scabbed onto the 42″ high bar to create a section that is 34″ high and more accessible for any guests who use a wheelchair.
